World No.3 women's singles star Maria Sharapova bounced back from her disappointing recent run of results to defeat Timea Bacsinszky and reach the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open tennis tournament here on Sunday.
The Russian arrived here in need of some time on court after early exits in Indian Wells, Miami and Stuttgart.
Against Swiss Bacsinszky, she began the process of playing herself into form ahead of the defence of her French Open title, firing 28 winners en route to a 6-2, 6-3 victory in an hour and 20 minutes.
