IPL 2011 Season 4: BCCI Facing Jittery Phase
A special meeting has been
called for by Board of Control
for Cricket in India, BCCI, to be
attended by all officials
comprising of its general body.
Meeting is to be held in Mumbai
on coming Saturday with an
agenda of reformation of the
disciplinary committee of the
Board.
As evident the current
committee ’s in place has
completed its term in September
and need to be restructured.
The main task being performed
by the committee is investigation
of Lalit Modi ’s involvement in
high level of misappropriations in
Indian Premiere League that was
being headed by him earlier.
Lalit Modi who was chairman of
IPL was directed by Board to quit
after his exposure in many
irregularities related to IPL ’s
functioning. The board was
supposed to reform the
disciplinary committee during its
annual general body meeting
held in September but failed to
do it though technically the
existing disciplinary committee
has lost its sanctity due to expiry
of its term.
Though BCCI secretary N
Srinivasan has stated that
reformation of disciplinary
committee as minor subject, the
sanctity of its functioning was
recently pointed out by Lalit
Modi’s lawyer Mehmood Abdi in
November.
BCCI is already staggering with its
jittery situation in relation to
three IPL teams Rajasthan Royals,
Kochi and Kings XI Punjab. Kochi
franchise issue on one hand is
almost resolved with their formal
reply to BCCI on its shareholding
problems and hence qualifies to
go for IPL season 4 to be held in
2011.
Rajasthan Royals team owners
had challenged their contract
termination by BCCI in Mumbai
High Court and have got a stay
order ruled by Justice Srikrishna.
With all this unstable situations,
BCCI ’s plan of auction of players
that was to be held in November
and then in January is apparently
going to be further delayed and
may happen during 2011 World
Cup.
Till IPL season four the number
of teams participating in the
event was eight that was increase
by two with the inclusion of two
new teams Pune and Kochi.
After the count reached to ten,
Kochi franchise controversy
started along with BCCI’s
termination of contract with two
old teams Rajasthan Royals and
Kings XI Punjab.
Further shuffling happened
during BCCI ’s plan of bidding for
a new franchise, when Kochi had
a come back and Rajasthan
Royals have got an approval
from Court to participate in IPL
2011.
BCCI is still not very clear about
how many total teams would be
participating in the forthcoming
IPL season 4.
