Virender Sehwag wishes Yuvraj Singh speedy recovery

NEW DELHI: Indian opener Virender Sehwag on Tuesday wished teammate Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing treatment in the US for a malignant tumour between his lungs, a speedy recovery.

"I have heard that Yuvraj is taking chemotherapy. We are hoping he would be fine and fit when he comes back. We all are praying for him," Sehwag said.

Sehwag said he was confident that the southpaw, who played a stellar role in India's 2011 World Cup victory, will emerge victorious in his battle against cancer.

Yuvraj Singh is happy he is in Boston for his cancer treatment and not in India where unwarranted and sentimental attention could have dampened his mood.

Sources close to the ailing cricketer said that Yuvraj keeps talking about the "matter-of-fact attitude" of both the medical staff and patients towards cancer and this has helped him to develop a positive outlook.

"People come in for treatment and leave the hospital after a cup of coffee, smiling," a source close to the family said. "It isn't like India where cancer is treated virtually like a death warrant."

And there's no reason yet to get gloomy about Yuvraj's cancer which was detected early in stage 1 and can be treated completely.

Yuvraj's father Yograj Singh told Times Now on Monday that doctors in Boston have assured the cricketer of a full recovery that will leave him stronger.

He has also been told that people with his kind of cancer - mediastinal seminoma - have often reached the hospital when the disease is in stage IV and have still walked out totally cured.

The southpaw has been under chemotherapy for two weeks and on Wednesday, the third of his nine weeks of the treatment begin, said Dr Nitesh Rohtagi, senior oncologist at Max hospital, Saket
